Tomorrow is the first Tuesday in December or what has also come to now be known as Giving Tuesday. The idea came about because now that we have “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” it would be nice to have a day for giving – and so in 2012 #GivingTuesday began. From the #Giving Tuesday website – Created by 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back—#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces—collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly—to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement. If you’re wondering how you can give back this “Giving Tuesday” we’d like to suggest a tax deductible contribution to the One World – One Heart Foundation. We are a 501C3 non-profit organization proudly run entirely by a group of wonderful volunteers. This means that 100% of your donation goes directly to those in need in Nepal. Since our inception, our focus has been on providing medical care, educational services, and other types of support to people living in the rural Lang Tang region of Nepal. Now that this area has been nearly entirely destroyed by the earthquakes and the avalanches that followed, we’re focused on helping the people there rebuild their lives. They are unfortunately up against a great deal. The earthquakes that began in April of this year have continued almost daily through this posting (there was a 4.1...

One of the many ways One World – One Heart Foundation is using your generous donations to provide relief to those impacted by the April, 2015 earthquakes in Nepal is by building temporary shelters like the one pictured here. There are areas where nearly all of the buildings were destroyed by the earthquake and the avalanches they triggered. Getting people warm, dry accommodations is of the utmost importance in these areas. To facilitate this One World – One Heart Foundation has been working with our sister organization DCWC Nepal to build sturdy, long-term temporary shelters like the one pictured here. Not only does this project create shelter as people work to rebuild their permanent homes, it is providing desperately needed jobs in the villages as well. Amazingly these shelters only cost $125.00! So, why not get a few friends or family members together and build someone a home this Holiday Season! It would take only a few people to donate $10 – $20 before you had enough to construct a full home. And of course donations are welcome in ANY amount! Each and every dollar helps in so many ways – and 100% of every donation goes directly to Nepal! One World – One Heart Foundation is a fully volunteer run organization and as such we have no overhead or other costs; which enables us to donate every penny raised to Nepal! So please join us in “People Helping People” and Give the gift that keeps on giving by providing shelter for those in Nepal who have...

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for all your efforts and commitment during a very difficult time in Nepal. In April, One World – One Heart along with Himalayan Quests Medical Camps serviced about 1800 people in remote mountain villages. Then the earthquake happened. Now, please see this update from Nepal below regarding how we were finally able to complete our mission, with the gift of sight. On June 7th, 25 cataract patients and their carers boarded 2 buses and headed to Pokhara, accompanied by our two amazing local health care providers, Tila Ale and Kumar Rana in order to finally undergo surgery to rectify the cataracts that were identified during April’s free health camps. Everyone was registered and re-screened to confirm their health camp diagnoses. Once this was completed the hospital staff then counselled the patients and their carers about the procedure, intended outcome, as well as the fact that for some, the surgery may not be 100% successful. One patient was sent home, as his cataracts were deemed too early for surgery, while two otherse will have to return for their surgery at a later date. One gentleman was on blood thinners and was instructed to come off his meds for 1 week and then return, as to operate while he was taking them would likely result in excess bleeding. Arjun, a 20 year old with disabilities and suspected epilepsy on top of his congenital bilateral cataracts, will also have to return for surgery, as he will need a general anesthetic for his operation and the hospital doesn’t have a full time anesthetist. Everyone is extremely happy and grateful for...
